Before we can begin learning the basic greetings and other beginner language topics, we must first learn how to interact and interpret culture.
There are three components of culture we need to be cognizant of when interpreting culture's role and relationship with Spanish: Practices, Products and Perspectives.
What does each term mean?
Yes exactly!
Practices are patterns of social interactions. Such as behaviors. They represent the knowledge of what to do and where. Can you think of an example of a practice?
Would an example be traditions related to holidays? Such as saying a prayer before eating dinner?
Products are the tangible or intangible creations of a particular culture. Some tangible products are paintings, a piece of literature and chopsticks. Can you think of intangible products?
Yes they would! Good job!
Would a dance or music be considered an intangible product?
Perspectives represent a culture's view of the world. They are the philosophical perspectives, meanings, attitudes, values, beliefs, ideas that underlie the cultural practices and products of a society.
Oh okay! So an example of a perspective would be the importance of family!
