  • Marriage of Marie Antoinette to Louis XVI
  • Marie Antoinette gambled and partied to distract herself from her unhappy marriage to Louis XVI
  • People were not afraid to show their distain towards Maria Antoinette, and published pamphlets accusing her of adultery, ignorance and other rumors about her. They nicknamed her "Madame Deficit"
  • Revolts increased as the living conditions of the 3rd Estate worsened, and people demanded that the monarchy be brought down.
  • In 1789, Marie Antoinette was told that her subjects had no bread to eat, to which she replied: "Let them eat cake."
  • After a failed attempt escape to Austria in 1791, Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were beheaded for treason in 1792 in Paris.
  • Marie Antoinette's hair turned white after being captured, and this was later named after her: Marie Antoinette syndrome
