  • After thinking about the pros and cons of joining the army, Kevin and Pat decided to enlist. Before they would leave, Pat and Marie wanted to get married. "I made a pact to keep the news secret until after the wedding. We knew the reaction from friends and family would be mixed, and we wanted to keep the day about the celebration of Pat's and my life together"(87).
