The old Regime was how things were already arranged in France. Society was ran by the church which is also known as the clergy (church) in the Three Estates. Top to bottom with most power,It was the church first, then the people were the two other estates. King Louis was the most important guy to be in France during the revolution at the time. The church did not give the people equality and natural rights and it created problems.
The Enlightenment led to poor governments and that’s how society was treated with unequal rights and other opportunities for the people. Philosophers told their rulers that they wanted to have natural rights for everybody and they wanted the access to any information/books they wanted. Because at the time , People couldn’t gain knowledge to enhance their lives. They would discuss about changes in these meetings for the better of people.
Like the Old Regime, the first estate was the church, nobles the second, and the general people were the third estate. These estates gathered and discussed meetings about their financial problems and the society. This changed French history and it essentially led to the revolution.
The third estate represented themselves as the National Assembly. The king didn’t really recognize this estate as a real efficient government. Therefore, he locked up all the meeting places and the others would meet at a tennis court until they were seen as part of the government. King Louis the fourteenth wasn’t bothered by doing this but the Assembly showed grit.
The storming of the Bastille was significant in the French history because it was one the reasons why the french revolution started. July 14, 1789, this fortress had been used to protect Paris. Although, the revolutionaries attacked because the third estate made instant change for their society, but the king but did not see change so they fought and captured Bastille. Bastille turned into a jail after this fight. This was one of the major causes that led to the revolution.
Women started a protest march in a Paris at marketplace and revolted for fair bread prices. This led to people raging and robbing stores full of bread because that’s what that relied on for survival. Then, others started to join the march. The revolutionaries gained confidence and power of the people because they wanted to make things right
