Hi,my name is Umamah. Here at the NHS, I work as a Children's Nurse.
Patients and Wards Checks
That's it, well done! If you need any help just tell me. Okay?
While the role of a Children's Nurse, at the NHS, varies, the nurses have to regularly check the progress of patients, encourage and talk to the children and finally console worried parents.
Talking to Parents
Thank You very much!
He is recovering extremely well, and should be able to go home by tomorrow but we'll keep you notified until then.
Our first duties are to check the children we have been put on duty for. Then we perform a series of ward checks. This consists of fire checks, equipment checks, crash trolley, check oxygen and suction etc.
Eerrmm... 4. Because my arm's getting better.
On a scale of 1 to 5 how do you feel today?
When we're done we get the children ready for breakfast. On our ward children have a choice in the morning regarding their food for the rest of the day.
What do you want to play with, dear?
What's that book about,David?
We then go around assessing and speaking to children and parents for an update on their progress.
After discussing the child's progress we perform any medical procedures we need to. This may include: taking blood tests, doing x-ray examinations or simply cleaning cuts and changing casts. We also use this time to talk to the children about how they are feeling etc
Entertainment is vital to young people and it is also an important part of their emotional and physical well-being. so, this is why we have a separate room for the children to take their minds of their illness and play. In the Play Room there are Play Specialists on duty to watch over the children while they play.
