Miguel Hidalgo started the war for independence by giving his speech called "Grito de Dolores" which called for racial equality, redistribution of land, and an end to Spanish rule.
We still want independence!
Hidalgo's army was defeated at Calderon in the January of 1811.
Fine, we can come up with an agreement.
Hidalgo got caught while trying to run away and was put to death.
Mini revolts made up of peasants kept fighting for Independence .
Due to an ever-growing mixed population and Liberal control of Spain agreements were formed. Treaty of Cordoba approved independent constitutional monarchy and the plan of Iguala established Mexico as an independent constitutional monarchy.
Mexico gains Independence and names Guadalupe Victoria as it's first president.
