  • The story is told from Melba's point of view, so it is in First Person.
  • Antagonist- White students
  • Hi! I am Luke.
  • Hi! Im Melba.
  • protagonist- all 9 black students
  • Hey look, its Melba. Her skins as black as midnight
  • Melba and the others were harassed on a regular basis by the Caucasian students which was a recurring conflict through their experience their.
  • Thank you.
  • Melba also was harassed at her own home.
  • I will blow your house into a million pieces
  • Your house is a pigsty and you all are filthy animals living in it
  • There was person vs. fate, person vs. society, and person vs. person conflict.
  • The tone is hope. All nine black students just hope that they can come upon a time where they would be treated equal to Caucasians.
  • STAY AWAY FROM US
  • The theme is equality and to keep your faith alive through tough times. Melba and the others just wanted to be accepted and not judged or mistreated because of their skin color.
  • Resolution- Integration+equality=UNITY AND PEACE
  • Central High School
  • The African American students were able to get through a tough year at Central, somewhat defeating segregation.
