During my time at elementary school I was usually behind due to my lack of focus and interest in reading and writing. It wasn't like I didn't know how it was just well...let's just say it wasn't the most interesting of subjects to me at the time...
It was a tough transition as I was going to start middle school and I was still behind in both my reading and my writing skills, I had adjusted my focus but I still had a lack of interest in the reading and writing.
Eventually my standardized test scores got mailed out and my family took a major notice to my overall low scores in the reading and writing portions of the test, which led to them taking a very proactive interest in improving my reading and writing.

Mainly they had me write multiple book reports over the summer in order to help me, this allowed for me to discover new books that I was interested in which also allowed for me to improve both my reading and my writing skills.
The process took awhile, but eventually I was able to improve my overall skills and interests with reading and writing. It also allowed for me to further explore the different types of readings and writings that I had paid little attention to during my time at elementary school.
This overall progression was apparent in my grades, as my overall grades in reading and writing (English) improved. Which improved my overall attitude towards the subjects. This led to me discovering and improving my skills in reading and writing on my own, which wouldn't have happened had it not been for my family who helped to impact and improve my reading and writing.
