Storyboard Text

  • Malcolm set up a house burglary business to make money for himself as he was broke from Harlem. This leads to him being caught for stealing a watch, and sentenced to 10 years in prison, at the age of 20.
  • Prison is where Malcolm undergoes a reformation of character and of spirit, completely changes his life path.
  • Malcolm discovered the Nation of Islam during his time. The views were that all whites were evil, and that the blacks would rise above. These were not traditional teachings, but it made sense to Malcolm. He began to lead discussions, improve himself, and focused his anger on improving the world.
  • Malcolm served out his time in prison, and on exit he became a minister of the NOI, speaking about violent revolutions and a new black nation. At this time he built lots of temples in Harlem and Boston, and also met the leader of the NOI, Elijah Muhammad.
  • I renounce the Nation of Islam and their misguided ways!
  • After Malcolm discovers that Elijah has multiple wives, against the Nation's beliefs, he realises the wrong in his ways. He renounces the Nation and travels to Africa, to embrace original Islam.
  • Malcolm embarked on his pilgrimage, and toured the African countries. Malcolm spoke in governments, and was acknowledged as a great man. When he returned to America, he founded two organisations for the furtherance of blacks.
  • Upon his return, Malcolm was met by many death threats from his former Nation of Islam members. These threats eventually translated into his death in 1965, assassinated while giving a speech for one of his organisations.
