  • Annabel Lee
  • Paraphrase
  • Connotation
  • Sounds like it about a guy who is in love with a girl named Annabel Lee
  • Attitude/Tone
  • The Narrator was deeply in love with a girl named Annabel Lee, they knew each other from a very young age and they loved each other very much, so much that the angel became jealous. Soon Annabel dies making the narrator blame the angels for her death, and the stars remind him of her every night.
  • Shift/Structure
  • Kingdom, maiden, love,  child, winged seraphs, angels, chilling, coveted, demons, sole, bride, tomb, killing and envying.
  • Theme
  • At the beginning of the poem, the narrator is compassionate and the poem appears romantic but as the poem goes on it changes to sadness and despair but the narrators devoted tone returns towards the end.
  • The narrators shift in the poem appears in the fourth stanza when he mentions that Annabel dying and on the fifth stanza when he says "But our love was stronger by far than the love..."
  • I think that the theme of the poem is eternal love because even after Annabel Lees death, the narrator doesn't lose feeling and loves her even more than before.
