  • The Social Security Administration was created as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program, with the signing of the Social Security Act of 1935 on August 14, 1935. It was needed to aid unemployment and pension issues caused by the Great Depression.
  • Me and my wife can no longer work!
  • SSA
  • The Social Security administration was designed to provide security for old age. Retired workers received regular payments financed by payroll tax on both employers and employees. Payments ranged from $10-$85 a month.
  • With my old-age pension, I can buy groceries.
  • The SSA provided federal-state unemployment insurance to prevent future depressions. By giving pensions to the elderly, more jobs were created and unemployment was relieved. Also, provision was made for the blind, the physically handicapped, and delinquent children.
  • The SSA falls into reform because it was a permanent program used to avoid another depression and insure citizens against economic disasters. It was also relief because it gave immediate action to those who suffered the consequences of the depression, such as the poor and disabled.
  • We are finally financially stable!
  • The SSA was a success as the government finally recognized its responsibility for the welfare of it's citizens. By 1939, over 45 million people were eligible for Social Security benefits- helping those in need.
  • We have to help citizens that are in need of economic assistance- SSA saves the day!
  • Throughout the years, the SSA has created electronic payments, online statements, addition of spousal/child payments and changes to the retirement age. The SSA continues to help citizens of the US to this day.
  • Retirement feels so good!
