Storyboard Text

  • Manor Farm
  • Animal
  • "Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. ...Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself."
  • When he dies only three nights after the meeting, three younger pigs—Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer—formulate his main principles into a philosophy called Animalism.
  • Later one night, the animals manage to defeat the farmer Mr. Jones in a battle, running him off the land.
  • “At this there was a terrible baying sound outside, and nine enormous dogs wearing brass-studded collars came bounding into the barn. They dashed straight for Snowball, who only sprang from his place just in time to escape their snapping jaws.”
  • The hens refuse to give up their eggs; Napoleon starves them; several of the hens die; the rest simply give up.
  • The pigs wholly consolidate their power and their totalitarian, communist dictatorship completely overwhelms the democratic-socialist ideal of Animal Farm. Napoleon and the other pigs have become identical to the human farmers.
