One day, Medusa and her friends went to go visit the temple created in Athena's honor. As they arrived, Medusa began to look around and say that the temple was indeed pretty but all they needed to change were the statues and painting of Athena stating that she would've been a better option because of her "beauty".
Athena appeared before Medusa and tried to convince her that there was more to life that just beauty. Medusa refused to listen.
Upset with Medusa's response, Athena decided to teach her a lesson about pride, selfishness, and her ego by taking away everything that made Medusa feel beautiful.
Athena gave Medusa the horrible ability to turn people to stone by simply looking at her so Athena decided to send her to the farthest and loneliest place ever where no man would have to lay eyes upon the horrid woman.
