John White founded North Carolina in 1587. He left his home in England to expand England. After the Roanoke colony disappeared other colonies explored that area and settled there.
Slaves in North Carolina harvested rice, cotton, tabbaco, indigo, peanuts, and sweet potatoes. They raised turkeys and hogs for food. Hogs are the most important livestock to them.
Then there were very few schools. The children learned how to read and write at home. Some kids didn't learn or go to school. Most young boys at the age of 12 became an apperentice.
