  • The Fenian Raid
  • In the night, 800 Fenians soldiers crossed the Niagara River from the United States. They're from a group called "The Fenian Brotherhood." Their main goal is to strike Britain by invading Britsh North America (BNA). They want to free their homeland, Ireland, from the British control
  • Battle at Ridgeway June 1866
  • With the Canadians not knowing, the Fenians soldiers attacked the town of Fort Erie. And they succeeded.
  • The Fenian commander ordered for telegraph line cuts and railway tracks to be torn up. They did it because they wanted the Canadians to suffer. But the Canadian generals rushed troops to the area. Eventually the Fenians soldiers escaped.
  • After the attack in Fort Erie, the Fenians marched toward Ridgeway. When the Canadians found out they were sent to battle. Sadly, the Canadians were inexperienced volunteers who didn't match the same skills like the Fenian soldiers.
  • In the battle, six Canadians were killed and thirty were wounded. This is when the British soldiers arrived to aid the Canadians in battle. The Fenians expected their reinforcement to come and help at this point, but none arrived. The Fenians then had to retreat.
