  • A Trap At Yorktown (Pt. 2)
  • Before the trap at Yorktown, Sir Henry Clinton led the British to the south where they could get loyalists to fight for the king. After arriving Clinton left to return to New York and left Lord Charles Cornwallis in charge. Soon though, Cornwallis noticed he really didn't control the south. Frances Marion, a guerrilla, led a band of rebels and antagonized the British with small hit-and-run tactics.
  • Cornwallis Surrenders
  • When Washington finds out about British moving South he sends Nathaniel Greene to slow them down. He succeeds and by the time Cornwallis and his troops reach Yorktown, the U.S. and France have surrounded and sealed any entrances to Chesapeake Bay. The United States and France opened fire and fought British for what was the last battle.
  • Joseph Martin was one man at Yorktown that day that watched the flag raise to signal to open fire. He said he felt a pride in his heart. " I Confess, I felt a secret pride swell in my heart." The fight went on for many days until the most guns were silenced.
  • After the navy did not come to help the British, Cornwallis surrendered. That day France and the United States formed two very different looking lines, but they all watched the British troops board ships and leave, while "The World Turned Upside Down" played. Cornwallis however did not attend, using his excuse, that he was sick. The Americans were just happy that they had succeeded.
  • I surrender!
