  • Mexicans welcome Anglo-Americans to Texas
  • Welcome to Texas!
  • 1835 New Dictator of Mexico
  • I am now the new dictator.
  • Battle of Gonzales
  • Come and take it!
  • The Mexicans welcome some Anglo-Americans to Texas, their new lands from the Spanish. They welcome them in hopes that they would become loyal Mexican citizens. Also they hoped they would keep the land from the U.S.
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • Take no prisoners!
  • In 1835, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna overthrew the constitution and made himself dictator. He ordered the Mexican military to disarm the "American Texans" as soon as possible. 
  • Battle of San Jacinto
  • Remember the Alamo
  • Castaneda was sent to get the cannon from the American Texans. Moore told Castaneda he should try to "Come and Take it" (the cannon).
  • Texas Statehood
  • Santa Anna ordered his men to take no prisoners, and the Mexicans lost between 600-1600 men. Santa Anna was taken prisoner. This battle became a symbol of heroic resistance for the Texans.
  • 800 Texans beat 1500 Mexicans in this battle. The battle was at the Alamo once again. Texas got to enter the U.S. thanks to this battle.
  • On December 29, 1845, Texas entered the U.S. as a slave state. Texas entering broadened the differences in America over the issue of slavery and sparked the Mexican-American war.
