William Bradford has arrived in Cape Cop with his ship full of other Puritans. This new land which they have arrived at is not as exciting as they had hope as it is cold, rocky, and has no liveliness.
Bradford and the Puritans encounter new people but he describes them as savage barbarians. The Puritans begin stealing from the Native Americans and try to justify their actions as God's Providence.
After the Puritans suffer a harsh winter many of the people start to get sick. They begin working together and help each other with their tasks. The Puritans are able to display their caring and selfless behavior to one another but show no compassion to the Native Americans.
