But despite Atticus' excellent justification, the white jury convicts Tom because of their prejudice against black people. Atticus knew that they could not win, but he tried his absolute best to possibly preventing Tom from being executed. Just after the trial, Tom tried to escapse from the prison, but was shot seventeen times and died.
After the trial, Bob Ewell was furious at Atticus for making a fool of him, so he told him that he will get his revenge. On Halloween night, Bob tried to kill Jem and Scout with a switch blade as they were walk home from a pageant, but Boo Radley heard their cries and killed Bob with a kitchen knife.
Sheriff Tate decided to call Bob's death self-inflicted. After Boo showed up at the house, Scout was so happy to finally meet him. She took his arm and walked him back home. She then stood at his porch and reflected at the neighborhood in his shoes.
