  • The buildings most dramatic and easily recognizable as Maya are the stepped pyramids from the Terminal Pre-classic period and beyond.
  • Maya urban design could easily be described as the division of space by great monuments and causeways. In this case, the open public plazas were the gathering places for the people and the focus of the urban design, while interior space was entirely secondary
  • Textiles from the Classic period, made of cotton, have not survived, but Maya art provides detailed information about their appearance and, to a lesser extent, their social function. They include delicate fabrics used as wrappings, curtains and canopies furnishing palaces, and garments
  • The Mayans created many artifacts out of pottery. Most pieces of pottery were decorated with humans and animals. They were made out of mold and by hand. Some of these pieces were buried with rulers.
  • Palaces were very large and decorated. It was were the elite people lived and was usually in the center of the city. An exceedingly large palace was was known as an acropolis. Archeologists believe that some palaces were hometo tombs
  • Ceremonial platforms were built out of limestone and were less then 4 meters tall. This is whereEm rituals and public cereomies were held. They were decorated with caed figures and altars.
