  • Chapter 2 : Friendship
  • "... but he;s sure a hell of a good worker. Strong as a bull." (22)
  • Chapter 3 : Violence
  • " Curley's fist was swinging when Lennie reached for it. The next minute Curley was flopping like a fish on a line, and his closed fist was lost in lennie's big hand. "
  •      This quote relates to the theme of Hope because it's George and Lennie's dream to own a piece of land and grow their own crops and animals.  This shows us that Lennie has faith and hope that their dream will come true and he's excited about it.    
  • Chapter 4 : Discrimination
  • " Well, you keep your place then, nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain't even funny. " (81)
  •     This quote relates to the theme of FRIENDSHIP because George brags to their new boss about how good of a worker Lennie is, even if he's dumb. This shows us that George likes to high talk about his friend Lennie.
  • Chapter 5 : Loneliness
  • " I get lonely, " she said. " You can talk to people, but I can't talk to nobody but Curley..." (87)
  • This quote relates to the theme of VIOLENCE because Curley was beating up Lennie until Lennie grabs ahold of Curley's fist and starts crushing it. This shows us how violence happened over Lennie smiling while zoning out
  • Chapter 6 : Death
  • " did he have my gun?" "yeah. he had your gun." "an' you got it away from him and you took it an' you killed him?" "yeah that's how," george said... (107)
  •     This quote relates to the theme of DISCRIMINATION because Curley's wife told Crooks to stay in his lane or else he'll get hanged. This show us how Crooks gets treated badly only because of his skin color.
  •     This quote relates to the theme of LONELINESS because Curley's wife tells Lennie how lonely she feels because she can't talk to anyone at the farm. This shows us how Curley's wife expresses her feelings about being lonely even if she's married.
  •      This quote relates to the theme of DEATH because Geaorge kills Lennie only because he killed Curley's wife  before the others were able to kill Lennie themselves. This shows us how Lennie got killed by his own friend George.
