Storyboard Text

  • How does playwright Tennessee Williams use the character's actions, description, or words to make a strong statement about gender in our society?
  • "Now lets cut the re-bop!" I'm Stanley Kowalski.
  • "You see, under the Napoleonic code – a man has to take an interest in his wife’s affairs – especially now that she’s going to have a baby." -Stanley Kowalski
  • To Stella: Stella my darling, why are you all dressed up in a nice dress?! Shouldn't you be making me dinner or cleaning up the house???
  • Oh no, he's drunk again...
  • Stanley sees himself as the provider & head of the household. He sees Stella's role as the homemaker; cleans, cooks, ie. Stanley, throughout the play, drinks, acts malicious, & is always demanding respect from Stella. Even after violence towards her from Stanley, she still loves him.
  • I will always love him no matter what, despite what Blanche may think.
  • After you're done cooking & cleaning, how about we go to the bedroom??
  • "[...] there are things that happen between a man and a woman in the dark—that sort of make everything else seem—unimportant."
  • I love you Stanley!
  • Oh Stella, I love you so much!!!
  • Stanley appreciates his sex life in that it solves the tension between him and Stella. Their physical relationship is the way that they forgive and make up. In conclusion, Stanley shows his love for Stella through intercourse. When Blanche stays with them, his physical relationship with Stella is threatned.
  • It's a new day with new opportunities! Time to support my family.
  • This is like life because Stanley's life revolves around structure & habit, which is a characteristic that we all have in one way or another. Dominance in the household & sexuality shows that he his the stereotypical, male, white, hard-working American.
  • All & all, I am a simple man with simple needs; power, sex, & respect.
