Sally, one of the Trig-buster, needed to figure out how high the cat was. Sally is looking at the cat from a 57 degree angle and is standing 5 meters away from the tree. She finds out that tan(57)x5 = 7.6. The cat is about 8 meters high!
How did you even get up there?
Sally's partner, Sam was going to help her until he found another cat! Since he was 4 m away from the 6 m ladder, the angle of elevation was cos-1(4/6). He found out that the ladder should be placed at about 48 degrees.
Ugh! The one time I didn't bring my calculator!
They needed to know how they could put the ladder back on to the truck. If the ladder is 12 m long and it needs to be placed at a 10 degree angle, they found out that sin10(12) = 2.08. So, the ladder should be about 2 m above the siren.
Sam and Sally both managed to rescue the cats all because of trig. Mrs. Smith thanked them and decided to adopt the other cat they rescued.
