Storyboard Text

  • The Arctic pulled him back in. Almost too old, he was almost 50 years old. It did not begin well. They did not have enough food and had many things going on.
  • It's my responsibility. I need to resupply. He went to ride a sled with the worst conditions you could possibly imagine
  • We're trying to find out how all these works. It doesn't matter if we live or die, theimportant thing is, the work goes on.
  • He pointed to the ice and pointed to the sky, and said...
  • His partners wanted to give up.
  • Vagner said let's go for a walk.
  • They resupplied, but it was still not enough to last them for the entire winter
  • He did not like riding the sled. He prefers to ski next to the dogs.
  • I'm going back to the coast
  • He had a heart attack ... And died.
  • No. Leave him there. He's where he wants to be
  • The german government wants to bring him back for a big funeral
  • By the 1970's, mounting evidence convinced scientists that Wegener was right: The continents do move.
  • But continents don't "drift" along the ocean floor, as Wegener suggested
  • Instead, plates of the Earth's crust float on the mantle
  • The theory of "Plate Tectonics" is now considered a fundamental principle of Earth science.
  • What he was wrong about was physics and he thought it happened way too fast
  • Here's what he got right: the continents move, they really do,
  • And in fact, are still moving today.
