  • Calypso
  • The literary element is characterization . Odysseus has a wife back home , Penelope. But, he sleeps with Calypso every night in her bed and remains on the island for 7 years . This shows he is very unloyal.
  • Laertes' son
  • The literary element is characterization . He goes to King Alcanous' island telling everyone who he is . He is acting very arrogant . This shows he is very egotistic .
  • Cyclops
  • The literary element is foreshadowing . The Cyclops prays out to his father for revenge for Odysseus blinding him . This shows later on in the stortYsomething bad with happen to him.
  • Calypso has held Odysseus captive for a long 7 years . She is involve with him and wants to keep him there . He sleeps with her everynight , but still wants to go home to Penelope . Hermes comes and tells her to release him . She helps him build a raft and leave .She doesn't warn him about the troubles he will face
  • Odysseus is welcomed from King Alcanous and he gives him a banquet in his honor . Odysseus tells him his harsh journey on Calypo's island . He says after leaving Troy land near Ismarus, the city of the Cicones .There they raid and kill the Cicones , until the Ciconian army kills 72 of Odysseus' men.
  • Odysseus and his men land on the island of cyclops, a rough and uncivilized race of one-eyed giants.There they come upon a cave full of sheep and crates of milk and cheese. The cyclops returns and makes a show of hospitality at first, but he soon turns hostile.He eats two of Odysseus’s men and imprisons Odysseus and the rest in his cave for future meals.Odysseus wants to kill him right there,but he knows that only he can move to rock from the door to let them out . Odysseus gets him drunk then stabs his eye . The men escape and steal some sheep . But , odysseus calls out and tells him , his identity . The cyclops throws a rock and yells a prayer to his father, Poseidon.
