As a result, James fled to France.
William of Orange agreed to the plan, arriving in England by 1688.
William and his wife, Mary II, began their joint rule of England in 1689.
Both William and Mary were Protestant, causing the English throne to remain Protestant even after their rule.
The people of England call this revolt the "Glorious Revolution". Since it took place, it had many long lasting effects on the nation:
