  • A group of nobles invited William of Orange, (Jame's nephew and son-in-law), to invade England with an army and become the new king.
  • As a result, James fled to France.
  • William of Orange agreed to the plan, arriving in England by 1688.
  • William and his wife, Mary II, began their joint rule of England in 1689.
  • Both William and Mary were Protestant, causing the English throne to remain Protestant even after their rule.
  • The people of England call this revolt the "Glorious Revolution". Since it took place, it had many long lasting effects on the nation:
  • Greatly strengthen the power of parliament.
