  • The British was taking our ships and the crew members of the ship. Britain was forcing them to be on their navy. This is when James Madison asks congress for them to approve war. Also at this time Native Americans were resisting moving away from their land in the Northwest territory. They also allied with the British in Canada. Britain supplied them with goods too.

  • Welcome to the British navy.
  • James Madison was the 4th president of the United States. During his presidency he asked congress to approve a war against Britain because the British were impressing American sailors and ships.

  • Oliver Hazard Perry led his men into battle against the British navy for 2 hours. The Americans ship was destroyed so they got into a rowboat and rowed to each British naval ship and destroyed it.
  • We beat the best navy in the world in a rowboat!
  • The British blockaded the east coast of the United Stated and then marched to the White House. When they got there James Madison and his wife saw them coming and escaped safely. The British set it on fire. That is also when Francis Scott Key wrote the national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner."

  • The British had blockaded the Mississippi river at the port of New Orleans. President Madison sent Andrew Jackson and his men hid in trenches and waited for the British to come find them. The Americans got lucky and it was foggy that day. The British couldn't see them. American casualties were 71 and British casualties were 2,000.
