Hello! Today I am going to be testing out my time machine for the very first time!
First, I will try and go back in time to Ancient Egypt.
BEEP BOOP BOP
I sure hope this works, or else I've wasted my time on nothing.
Travelling back 2060 years...
OMG! It worked! Now I want to go explore!
Um, excuse me, Cleopatra, what are you doing to your lips?
Oh my God! It's CLEOPATRA! What is she doing to her face?
Oh! I'm using crushed carmine beetles and ants to add colour to my lips. You should try it, it's very popular among men and women in Egypt.
Ancient Egyptians have also used the dye from seaweed mixed with bromine mannite and iodine. I've also used flowers, red ochre, fish scales, crushed ants and carmine in a beeswax base. The cochineal beetle produces carmine, which gives me my iconic red lip.
Us royalty and upper class wear colour on our lips as a display of social status.
