Storyboard Text

  • Wow! This is the ALS museum. There's so much here. All I know about ALS is that 10% of all cases are hereditary but if your parent has ALS you have a 50% chance of getting ALS!
  • This is Stephen Hawking. He had ALS: a disease that attacks your nerve cells, causing muscle weakness. ALS is caused by chemical imbalance in your brain
  • Stephen Hawking 1942-2018
  • This is Lou Gehrig. He also had ALS. When your body makes too much of a chemical called glutamate, it can kill nerve cells. Your body usually uses glutamate to communicate between cells.
  • Lou Gehrig 1903-1941
  • Really? I thought only people like Stephen Hawking and Lou Gehrig had ALS.
  • Nope. Lots of people have ALS and only eating orange vegetables and taking Riluzole can slow it down.
  • And 20,000 other Americans just like you
  • That was a real eye-opener
  • ALS Museum - Closed
