For years Remus and Romulus were raised by a she-wolf, along with her cubs. This gave them animal-like instincts. Soon enough, the two boys were adopted and got their first jobs as shepherds.
One day, Remus got into a fight with some of the other shepherds, and he was sent to face the boss of those shepherds. Once the boss caught sight of Remus however, he knew there was something special about him.
You two are my grandchildren! Years ago, my evil brother Amulius overthrew me as king and banished your mother to the temple in which she birthed you. You must reclaim your right to the throne!
Remus and Romulus had helped many people through their years as shepherds. They gathered these people and planted a rebellion against Amulius. They won without difficulty and began building their kingdom.
There are two different theories as to what happened next. One theory suggests that Remus and Romulus argued over the naming rights for the kingdom. Another suggested that the two argued over the hight of the kingdom walls. This fight led to the death of Remus. This resulted in Romulus becoming the leader of the kingdom. The kingdom was named Rome and the walls were not elevated.
While Rome got off to a bumpy start, it is still considered one of the most successful empires in history. It is believed that Romulus disappeared in a storm on February 17, 717 BCE. For this reason, Romans celebrated Romulus on this date for years to come.
