  • Beginning
  • First Voyage
  • Vasco was born in Sines, Portugal around the year of 1460. He was the third child and soon joined the navy at the age when he learned to navigate the sea.
  • Second Voyage
  • Vasco had built up a reputation for himself when King John II had sent him out to the southern side of Lisbon and to the Algarve region in order to attack French ships as an act of vengeance
  • The Later Years
  • He had captained a group of ships sent by King Manuel in 1497 , in order to find a route to the East . This voyage had led the crew to be ill with scurvy and his vessels slightly damaged . In the end , he had arrived in the East
  • His Death
  • On July 8th 1497, Vasco returned to India with 20 ships. But he was far more malevolent. He killed and terrorized many Muslims who returned from Mecca. After raiding India, he went back to Portugal.
  • Later years, Vasco kept his connection with King Manuel and lived his life normally with his family of eight . He continued on , and his third and last voyage was back to India
  • Vasco was acknowledged by many when he had arrived home . In 1524 , he was announced as the Portuguese Viceroy in India . However , later that year , Vasco De Gama had died in Cochin that was then sailed back to Portugal .
