  • July 14th 1789 the National Assembly went to the Bastille (a medieval fortress for prisoners) and demanded weapons and gunpowder. The commander refused to let them in so the mob broke in and killed the commander and the guards and also let out the prisoners, but they did not find any gunpowder or weapons. The Bastille was representing years of abuse from the monarchy and a wake up for King Louis.
