We have to save some for tomorrow. We can't lose hope.
Do you want food or not! Move faster!!
"Did you eat?" "No". "Why?". "They didn't give us anything. They said that we would die soon and that it would be a waste of food." "I can't go on..."I gave him what was left of my soup. But my heart was heavy." Pg. 107. This shows that Elie is persisent because eventhough Elie is very hungry, he is giving his father some food that might not even help him eventhough he is weak and can't move on. Elie believes that his father can move on and is strong enough that the little bit of soup will help him.
My leg really hurts I can't even feel it anymore.
"Leave me", he said.I can't go on anymore... Have pity on me... I'll wait here until we can go into the showers... you'll come and get me." " Was I going to let my father die now? Now that we would be able to take a good hot ahower and lie down." Pg. 105. This shows that Elie is persistent because he is staying there with his father when his father wants to die and completely lost hope. Elie is trying to give his father hope and help him eventhough there might be no way of his father having hope again.
"There was still some food left. But we never ate enough to satisfy our hunger. Our pinciple was to economize, to save for tomorrow." Pg.23. This shows Elie is persistent because he still thinks there will be a tomorrow and no one should give up just yet. He thinks the worse hasn't even come yet. Others already lost hope and don't believe in tomorrow.
It will hurt a little bit and you will not be put to sleep. Do you agree for the operation to be done?
I agree doctor
"These thoughts were going through my mind as I continued to run, not feeling my numb foot, not even realizing that I was still running.Pg.87. This shows Elie brave because he knows he doesn't feel very well at the moment both mentally and physically and he still continues to run. He is risking himself falling, being shot at, or just dying.
"My father was sent to the left. I ran after him. An SS officer shouted at my back "come back". Pg.96. This shows Elie is brave because he was running after his father knowing that the SS could have done anything to him if they saw him running. The SS could have killed him but he was still running just to see his father.
"It will hurt a little, he said "but it will pass." Be brave." The operation lasted one hour. They did not put me to sleep. I did not take my eyes off the doctor. Then I felt myself sink.Pg.79. This shows Elie being brave because he had a choice of doing the surgery and he accepted it eventhough he knows it's in a concentration camp, with no proffesionl equipment, amd a doctor doing it on him who he never met in his life.
