Thank you , i want to inspire and help out people just like me.
THIS IS AMAZING!
Teach me everything you know.
12 year old, deaf boy Laurent Clerc was enrolled in his first public school called Institute National des Jeune Sourds. Clerc's first teacher became his mentor and life long friend. He did well in his academics and just 8 years later he became a teacher.
Thank you for making this possible Clerc.
I couldn't of done it without Gallaudet.
Masseiu , former teacher for Clerc and Sicard, the director of the school went all the way to England with Clerc to show their teaching methods around the world.
Thomas Gallaudet was at one of their lectures. Gallaudet was neighbors with Cogswell , a guy who had been intrigued by deaf education, most likely from his deaf daughter Alice. They wanted a deaf school , so they reached contact with Clerc. Gallaudet came to Paris with Clerc and learned how to teach sign language.
I’m so grateful to have been taught this amazing language and harare it with you all.
Cogswell helped put together a school , so Alice could learn somewhere and Clerc could teach there. Clerc got asked to teach in Russia but he declined because of financial reasons. Clerc had to sign a contract that stated he was "on loan" for 3 years.
Once Clerc had met with Alice he realized she was very smart and a fast learner. The first deaf school in America opened calling it the Connecticut Asylum at Hartford for the instruction of deaf and dumb people. He wanted to expand the land , so he went to the congress and they gave them 23,000 acres of land in Alabama.
People were using Clerc's teaching methods all around the world with the French Sign Language. Clerc completed 50 years of teaching and sadly passed away at 73 years old. Even though he retired he continued to share his love for signing.
