  • Tom was alarmed when he noticed a man had approached without sound.
  • Deacon Peabody be dead, Look yonder, and see how Deacon Peabody is faring."
  • Tom looked in the direction that the stranger pointed, and saw one of the great trees. On the bark of the tree was scored the name of Deacon Peabody.
  • Your grounds? These grounds belong to Deacon Peabody.
  • He's just ready for burning! You see I am likely to have a good stock of firewood for winter."
  • But what right have you to cut down Deacon Peabody' s timber?
  • Tom wasn't sure about the man's information but the stranger said he would reassure him with his "signature" and the stranger left a black finger print on Tom's forehead that he couldn't remove.
  • It was my land first. And I know where there is a great sum of money that was buried long ago by Kidd the Pirate under the oak trees on the high ridge not far from the morass.
  • What proof have I that all you have been telling me is true?
  • He told his wife of the strange man's words about the riches of the pirate. She was incredibly avarice and immediately wanted to go seek it out so that she could have it all for herself. Simply out of spite, he refused.
  • So I met this man today and he told me that he knew where to find a lot of money, but I'm really not sure it's a good idea to go after it.
  • We have to go find this treasure..NOW!
  • No. No. No. No. I'm not going to give you what you want.
