The Beloit Turner Baseball team got on the bus heading to Evansville. We knew there were only two games that stood between us and a trip to the state tournament in Appleton.
Here we go Marty!! Keep throwin' strikes!
Play's at first
Nerves, excitement, and smiles filled the bus as we rode to Evansville. We knew our first opponent (Catholic Memorial) very well, the number one ranked team in the state with the so called best pitcher. We knew it was going to be tough but we never doubted ourselves.
We're going to Appleton!!
As the coaches met at home plate for the first game of the day, there was a feeling that this was going to be a special day. Coach Clowes got us fired up, and we were ready to play some baseball.
After a hard faught first game, we won 2-1 thanks to a fantastic pitching performance by Marty and a few clutch hits. We were onto the sectional championship to play Mount Horeb, and we could already feel that our ticket to Appleton was coming.
We started off hot in the first inning taking an early lead, and we never looked back. I was pitching well. Before we knew it, there were two outs in the seventh, and Mt. Horeb was down to their last out. A fly ball was sent into right and caught to end the game. That was a feeling I'll never forget.
After that final out, everyone sprinted in to attack me. Underneath that dog pile was not very comfortable, but I'd give anything to do again. After a long day on the baseball field, we took down the number one team in the state, and then punched our ticket to state which was our number one goal all season.
