Storyboard Text

  • Lotus flowers bloomed as took his first steps. His ability to walk and talk surprised his mother, but she had a feeling he was destined to surprise her more
  • Long ago, a Queen was giving birth to her son in a forest. It is said that the branches reached down to her and offered her support as she birthed Siddhartha Gautama and that the process itself was painless. 
  • I have been born to reach enlightenment and free all creatures from suffering.
  • Sadly, the Queen died 7 days after the birth and was not able to witness the wonders Siddhartha would be able to achieve. 
  • An ascot, however, did predict that the baby would be a great king or military leader, or a great spiritual leader. Either way, Siddhartha was destined for greatness.
  • Siddhartha grows up to marry a princess and has a child with her. Everything seemed to be going as planned, until one day he is enchanted by foreign music, which then leads him to question what the world outside his father's palace is like.
  • And so, Siddhartha grows being shielded from the miseries of the world. This all being orchestrated by the King, his father, in hopes for him never learn suffering.
  • One day, he was able to venture out into the world. But instead of being welcomed with beautiful things like the music he heard, he was confronted with the hurt of the human world.
  • What is this?
  • With that, Siddhartha is exposed to the cruel reality that his father tried to shield him from . He witnesses old age, diseased people, a decaying corpse, and a mendicant. These four passing sights cause him to turn away from seeking power.
  • This is what happens over time, my Prince. People get old and become weak.
  • There are people out there suffering! How am I supposed to live here doing nothing about it when I know I can do something to help!
  • I'm sorry, father, but I need to help.
  • And what will you do!? Your job is to stay here and one day take over as King. That is your duty and that is final!
  • With a heavy heart but determined mind, Siddhartha runs away from the life he was accustomed to. Along with bidding comfort farewell, he was also leaving behind his wife and child.
  • This must be done.
