tHE BLACK BOX!!!
Come up and grab your piece of paper.
-Hey Bill, How are you? Beautiful day today, huh? -Heh, yeah Tommy!
NO! ITS NOT FAIR!!!! ITS NOT FAIR!!!
The Black Box: The black box is a symbol of tradition. These villagers/townspeople cannot break away from their tradition, which is the lottery. Plus this box has been used for most of the history of the lottery in that town.
wow, its super dark.
Image above: Mr.Summers calling people up Most scenes throughout the book are of Mr.Summers calling people up to the stand to grab their slips.

girl, should I give Tyree 1 more chance?
Irony: The village/town starts off as a peaceful, quiet, nice villiage/town and then they do a complete 360 and stone someone.
Theme: A continuation

GIRL HE BROKE MY ACHY BREAKY HEART!!!
The tone is Dark. Towards the end of the story, it gets pretty horrendous once you know what's going on. When Tessie gets stoned, people seem very unaffected by her cry for help and stone her anyway, which is dark and evil.
The theme is don't trust everyone because they can turn on you in a instant. I say this because the village is like a family in a way. Everyone knows everyone and everything. When Bill gets the black dot, Tessie immediately demands a recount, she stands by her man. When they did a recount, she got the black dot and they were quick to stone her, no questions asked. Don't trust everyone.
