  • " Mrs.Baker, you helped a lot with my running."

  • " A southwest blow on ye and blister you all o'er
  • "Toads,beetles,bats, light on you"!

  • Holling's relationship with Mrs.Baker has improved . At first Holling thinks Mrs.Baker hates him. But as time goes by Holling realizes how kind hearted Mrs.Baker actually is.
  • Holling and his sister (Heather)
  • Holling hated cross country and was very bad at it. He would also be last and his gym teacher would also yell at him to run faster. Holling was forced by Coach Quatrini (his gym teacher) to tryout for the cross country team. Holling practiced running by himself. The day of tryouts Holling ran like Jesse Owens and set a new record. He also made the varsity cross country team.
  • Holling and his Father
  • " He became a man."
  • " You think that's how you become a man, bu chanting a few prayers."
  • Mrs.Baker assigns Holling Shakespeare plays to read and take tests on.  Him and Mrs.Baker also talk about the deep meanings of the plays. Holling has gotten interested in Shakespeare plays so much that he even starts memorizing parts of the plays. He was also in Shakespeare play.
  • Holling and Meryl Lee
  • "Yes"
  • " I thought you might be thirsty."
  • Holling's relationship with his sister (Heather) was not very tight. Heather would always argue and tease Holling. Heather had left home to find herself. Both Holling and Heather then realized how special a brother and sister relationship is. Brothers and sisters are are there for each other . Heather didn't have any money to come home so, Holling cashed in his savings bond and sent it to her. This event strengthened the bond between Heather and Holling. 
  •  Holling has spoken up to his father which is a big accomplishment for Holling. He has said what he believes to his father because Mr.Hoodhood always expects everyone to do and think what he says. Holling mother and his sister were proud of him to say what he thinks. Holling now has learned to speak up for himself and not always follow his fathers orders.
  • Holling and Meryl Lees relationship was very questionable. Holling felt betrayed by Meryl Lee because, her father used Hollings fathers design plan for the new school. But then Holling became soft hearted and forgave Meryl Lee. Now their relationship has become stronger. When Meryl Lee tells Holling that she might have to move both are upset which shows they care for each other. Holling has learned to forgive and forget.
