  • Wednesday, 8 July, 1942 continued - To the Secret Annex -
  • On the 8th of July, a police came down to the Frank's house. Everyone was anxious to hear what is was. The news was... Margot Frank was called up.  She had to go to labour camp in Germany with thousands of other Jews. "I was more frightened than ever and began to cry. Margot is sixteen; would they really take girls of that age away alone?"
  • Friday, 10 March, 1943 - Harsh life in the Annex -
  •
  • Mr. and Mrs. Frank did not want to let their daughter go to a dangerous place by herself. And they made a decision to go into hiding. All of the family members quickly packed their vital things into a backpack "But thank goodness she won't go, Mummy said so herself; that must be what Daddy meant when he talked about us going into hiding."
  •    Friday, 10 March, 1943 continued - Shivering Night -
  • The next day, the Frank family went out together to the Secret Annex. Because they could not carry any bags, or items, they had to wear layers and layers of clothes. "We put on heaps of clothes as if we were going to the North Pole, the sole reason being to take clothes with us. no Jew in our situation would have dreamed of going out with a suitcase full of clothing. "
  •  Friday, 10 March, 1943 continued - Rat Problems  -
  • Anne was in fear of the bombing and shooting sounds everyday at night. It was so loud that she could not even sleep. "I still haven't got over my fear of everything connected with shooting and planes...The A. A. guns roar so loudly that you can't hear yourself speak."
  • Anne often slept with Daddy for comfort. Although, such cold temperature always disturbed her sleep. She only had a small candlelight to warm herself up. "I was shivering, just as if I had a temperature, and begged Daddy to light the candle again."
  • The residents of the Annex were noticing some unnatural noise at night.  And one night,  when Peter went to the attic, he saw tons of rats running by. This meant that the Frank family and the residents were stuck in a place with rats.  "Peter went up to the attic with a torch-and scamper-scamper-scamper! What do you think it was running away? A swarm of enormous rats!"
