  • *Tammany Hall was powerful New York political organization. It drew support from immigrants. The immigrants relied on Tammany Hall patronage, particularly for social services. In return, they asked for ppl's votes on election day. *William Tweed was the "Boss" of Tammany Hall. *Thomas Nast was the scourge of Democratic Representative "Boss" Tweed and the Tammany Hall Democratic party political machine.
  • The Spoils System was the practice of a successful political party giving public office to its supporters.
  • The Pendleton Act is important because it stopped the appointment of people to governmental offices merely because of their political affiliation or their connection to the president. The Pendleton Act required qualified people to be elected to governmental offices based on the individual's merit.
