The 14th Amendment was established in 1868
It says that anyone born in the U.S. is a citizen of the United States and in the state he/she is living in.
This means that any man of any color has the right to vote and to buy property.
No state shall... deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person... the equal protection of the laws
The 14th Amendment also says that states can't deny to any person "equal protection of the laws"
The equal protection laws meant that each and every person is going to be treated equally. Blacks will be treated the same as whites.
The 14th amendment allows anyone that was born in the US is a citizen and if you could be discriminated by you skin color, religion or appearance the amendment protects you from being treated unfairly.
