Storyboard Text

  • Today, in our class, we are going simplify   algebraic expressions! Let's look at the expression on the board. Isn't awesome?
  • -17 -t- ( t+3 )
  • I know how to do it! Let me demonstrate!
  • No Idea how to do it.
  • NOOOOOO!!!
  • Clara, I know you knew the answer, but don't be so eager! I am going to demonstrate this to you guys.
  • -17 -t- ( t+3 )
  • First, we need to take out the parenthesis. So, the expression changed to -17-t-t-3. Because the sign in front of the parenthesis is a -, so the sign in the parenthesis must change to a -.
  • -17 -t- ( t+3 )
  • Then, we are going to combine the like terms together. There are two groups of like terms in this expression, t and t, -17 and -3. So now to expression changed to, -17+(-3 )-t-t. Then changed it to -20 -2t. And that is the simplest form for this algebraic expression.
  • -17 -t- ( t+3 )
  • And now it is time to organize our work!
  • -17-t-(t+3) =-17-t-t-3 =-17-2t-3 =-20-2t
