The sedition, espionage and the American protection league acts were implemented. The most outrageous thing they did was change income taxes to 60%. The also changed immigration laws and welcomed immigrants to take the jobs that were left open by the 24 million men that were drafted. They made a lot of propaganda to encourage people to go to the war.
Effects for US Women
The selective service act was implemented. The US industry really benefited from WW1 as exports to Europe increased almost 4 times. They made so much money that they were able to raise wages by an astounding 7%. Women and immigrants were the main working force during the time and they were mainly exporting.
Effects for US Immigrants
The main issues were that the socialists were against WW1 and protested. This lead to the Red Scare which is basiclly the widespread fear by a society or state about a potential rise of communism, anarchism, or radical leftism
Effects for African-Americans
There were a lot of effects based on woman suffrage, the 19th amended and the selective service act that gave women a lot more freedom. They were allowed to work the jobs of the men who left for the war. People had to adapt to the situation and even though they were against it they let women work.
There was a lot of Americanization and a new acceptance of immigrants as jobs needed to be filled. This was a great opportunity for immigrants to find jobs and fit into society. There was also the issue with the Buck vs. Bell.
There were a lot of protests during WW1 with African Americans. They organized the silent protest parade and the Tulsa Riot. They mostly decided to move to the north and east coast. 550,000 African Americans went looking for better lives.
