Storyboard Text

  • My name is Bob. I am here at the civil war army camp. We train all day and have very little food. It is exhausting.
  • Army camps were bad living conditions. Soldiers never got a lot of food and they trained
  • The battles were short but gruesome, never lasting more than a few days. In the battle of Bull Run, I got shot.
  • Get shot Bob!
  • The battles were short but bloody. Many people died and many more were wounded.
  • Don't worry, we will chop your arm off!!
  • Medicine here isn't great, most of the time wounds would get infected.
  • The diets of the soldiers consisted of beans and bacon. There was also biscuits and vegetable stew. They were often under fed.
  • Newbob is my name. I'm an African American soldier.
  • Please don't take me to a prisoner of war camp!
  • African Americans in the south were limited in military action. On January 1st, 1863, African Americans were allowed to fight in the war. 200,000 African Americans were in the Union army.

  • Over 50,000 men died in prison camps. Prisoners had to dig holes underground to protect themselves from the sun. The camps were dirty and prisoners were starving, so not many people survived.
