  • The exposition of the story is when Montresor offers a bottle of the finest wine to Fortunato.
  • Climax
  • The conflict of the story is the Montresor says that Fortunato had insulted him too many times and he also states that he wants revenge.
  • Falling Action
  • The rising action of the story is when Montresor and Fortunato go into the wine vault to retrieve the bottle of amontillado.
  • Resolution
  • When they find the wine they stop and there is a hole in the wall. Montresor pushes Fortunato into the thew hole and starts to seal it up with bricks.
  • Before Montresor lays the last few bricks, Fortunato screams and tells him to stop but then he realizes that it is too late.
  • Montresor leaves Fortunato in the wall and he says that nobody has disturbed them for 50 years and he hasn't gotten caught.
