The exposition of the story is when Montresor offers a bottle of the finest wine to Fortunato.
The conflict of the story is the Montresor says that Fortunato had insulted him too many times and he also states that he wants revenge.
The rising action of the story is when Montresor and Fortunato go into the wine vault to retrieve the bottle of amontillado.
When they find the wine they stop and there is a hole in the wall. Montresor pushes Fortunato into the thew hole and starts to seal it up with bricks.
Before Montresor lays the last few bricks, Fortunato screams and tells him to stop but then he realizes that it is too late.
Montresor leaves Fortunato in the wall and he says that nobody has disturbed them for 50 years and he hasn't gotten caught.
