Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I'm Giuseppe Mazzini, founder of the Young Italy movement. I was a figurehead for unification and nationalism in Italy.
  • And I'm Camillo di Cavour, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sardinia. I wanted to promote Italian industry and the House Savoy, rulers of the Kingdom.
  • I convinced other Italians, like this man here, to join Sardinia under King Emmanuel II. This unified the north of Italy.
  • I'm Giuseppe Garibaldi.
  • I led my Redshirt guerrilla soldiers to victory in Sicily and Naples, allowing House Savoy of Sardina to unify Italy.
  • This was all started when I, Charles Albert, King of Piedmont-Sardinia, started the First Italian War of Independence against Austria in 1848. Although it ultimately failed, it launched a chain of events that weakened Austria's hold over Northern Italian states.
  • The First, Second, and Third Wars of Italian Independence against Austria eventually established rule of House Savoy over the Italian states as a whole.
