roman games were brutal. the gladiator games that is, and they were origionally held to appease the souls of the dead.
the gladiators used were usually slaves, criminals, or prisoners of war. Occaisionally people would volunteer to become a gladiator and risk their life for fame
but there were some games that romans liked that weren't as violent, like chariot racing. in chariot racing, a rider would go for seven laps around a track that is anywhere from 3 to 5 miles.
