  • Oh okay. So can it be said that criminals suffer from personality disorders as well.  You mentioned that persons could be emotionless. I wondered if that could have an impact on if a person commits a crime 
  • Yes there are criminals who suffer from personality disorders. But there are other disorders that they can display.
  • Really. Like what?
  • Well in addition to the types of personality disorders. There is depression, schizophrenia, substance abuse. Also criminals may suffer from more than one disorder
  • Wow that's interesting?
  • Also interesting is the fact that most prisoners suffer from some type cognitive distortion.
  • What is cognitive distortions?
  • This is simply errors in the way a person thinks.
  • Oh
  • Yes. It includes cognitive style, critical reasoning, interpersonal problem solving, social perspective thinking.
  • That is a answer is a bit complicated. Lets put it this way, a disorder does not necessarily mean that a person is dangerous but there is the possibility that they can be. So the disorders that criminals display are often seen in relation to dangerousness. As such most of the treatment options involve the altering the way of thinking 
  • Does this mean that because they have cognitive distortions that they can be labelled as dangerous?
