While the gods were celebrating the slaying of the giant, Thajazi, an unannounced visitor stormed their halls. The visitor was none other than Thajazi's daughter Skadi, who was here to avenge her father's death.
The gods were able to convince Skadi to accept reparations instead of vengeance. The reparations would come in three parts. The first required Odin to cast Thjazi's eyes into the sky where they would then become stars.
The second task was to make the giantess laugh. Many tried and failed, but, finally, Loki succeeded.
Finally, Skadi got her choice of a god to marry, but she could only choose based off of the suitors' legs and feet. She picked the best pair she could see thinking they were Baldur's, however, they turned out to be Njord's.
After the magnificent wedding, the couple had to decide where to live. Njord's home was in Noatun ("The place of ships"). Skadi's home was Thrymheim ("Thunder-home"). When they tried to stay at each other's home, the were miserable!
After deciding that neither would be happy living in the opposite city, both Njord and Skadi decided to part ways and live happily apart.
